Sith

just saw it last night...

wow, much better than I expected.

Not only the best of the prequels, but I think it's right up there with New Hope (IV) and Empire (V).

Finally gets back to the grand sweep of events that I thought was missing in I & II.

Tragedy, pretty effects, and lots and lots of light-saber swinging.

      Responding to your own post?

      :(

I liked it enough to see it again 3 days later...if that helps. :)

I agree that the earlier movies totally lacked the scale.

      SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!

      Problems I had:

-Padme, former royal decoy and current senator for Nabu.....but get her knocked up and it's suddenly "what do we do Annie??"

-Yoda knew Chewbacca? HOW OLD IS THAT FURBALL???

-Tarzan yodelling from the Wookies as they attack from the trees??

-The way the Jedi handle Anakin..."We don't trust you and don't want you around....now we're going to leave you here with no one to guard you, keep you from stewing, etc. while we kill your friend the Sith".

-Almighty Jedi, readers of minds, terror of evil. Spend a few days in the company of a few HUNDRED clones, and you can't manage to figure out that they have secret orders to kill you?

I liked it enough that I will be seeing it again in the theater, right now just debating between digital projection (handy enough at the metreon) and IMAX (only in pleasanton, where, yes, I work, but not sure how excited I'll be to make the commute home at ~9-10pm).

        As for your spoilers...

        * (first, AFAIK, Padme was always the queen... just dressed like a handmaid a good bit of the time.) But as to your actual complaint, I'm not so sure she *needed* Anakin to help her think so much as she just *wanted* input, and if possible, agreement from her partner about the scary direction the republic was taking. After all, when things finally did go too far for her (Obi-Wan's news about the jedi younglings), she quite determinedly took things into her own hands and blasted her pregnant ass off to a lava planet on the far side of the galaxy.

        * I had heard that Wookies lived a long time, so this didn't really surprise me. Just think of 'em as hobbits with some height and extra fur. [FYI, originally it was supposed to be Wookies helping on Endor in Return of the Jedi instead of Ewoks. Woulda made it a much better picture and provided less of an opening for the Jar-Jar factor.]

        * Tarzan yodel happens in ROTJ, too. Ya don't have to like it, but it *is* a reference to the original trilogy...

        * Yeah, I *really* had a problem with Yoda/Windu/Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan not flashing on the fact that Palpatine is really, really not a nice guy. The only way I can forgive this plot point is to reinforce how many people are fooled by W and his cronies in DC the last few years. Otherwise, total hogwash, "hard to see the dark side is" notwithstanding. If a Jedi can't tell you who you should let your daughter date, what good are they? ;)

With all that said, though, I sort of buy the 'order 66' thing. Probably the clones themselves were unaware of this aspect of their subconscious training until activated with the 'magic word.' And if the clones don't (consciously) know, it's not in their minds to be read.

You ever see 'Manchurian Candidate' [the original, can't vouch for the remake as I ain't seen it yet]? Even for 20th century technology, this is not an impossible trick...

oh, and ps. thanks for posting... was getting kinda quiet in here... :)
